STYLE GURU STYLE: Tropical Edge

Spring is officially here, everyone! I must say that a few weeks ago, I never thought the season was going to make its appearance. The weather is finally warming up and the sun is finally coming out! Spring is my favorite season mainly because I am an April baby, but also because of the fresh air, flowers and sunshine. There is just something about spring fashion that gets me really excited.

The Nicole Miller spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection featured many bold and statement tropical prints that really left an impression on me. I really loved that she did not shy away from black in the show even though it is a spring fashion show. In fact she did quite the opposite and really emphasized the color black consistently throughout the show.

The runway show led me to shopping the ASOS site in hopes of finding something similar to Nicole Miller’s incredible pieces.I found this amazing textured top with a palm tree tropical print! In Nicole Miller’s show I remember one particular look being paired with a very structured moto jacket. I decided to add my leather jacket, but added my own flair by draping it over my shoulders. This is becoming a huge trend that I have noticed particularly in European street style photos, so I decided to adopt the trend for myself. Inevitably I paired these items with my super high rise Topshop Joni jeans, because I am obsessed with them! I accessorized with my boho medallion necklace, my Miansai screw cuff and a spring bootie that is textured with buckles and cutouts.

Get My Look: 1. Screw cuff. 2. Cutout bootie. 3. Tropical top.

Hi everyone! I'm Melanie Witzberger from Kent State University, but you can call me Mel. I am in my third year of college, however I'm graduating this August and am so excited about it! I am currently studying Fashion Merchandising with a minor in Marketing. I can not imagine studying anything other than Fashion, I absolutely love everything about it! This is my first semester as a Style Guru and I can not wait to see what this semester holds. The future is bright ( I hope literally), as I hope to move to California sometime after graduation. I would love to be a Stylist, Visual Merchandiser, or Buyer in the future. I also have a deep passion for all things dealing with social media and would love have a career that involves working with it!
