STYLE GURU STYLE: Coats for Everyday Wear

January 14th, 2016 at 2:00am

This winter, long coats with buttoned detailing are super trendy, and the one designer whose long coats catch my eye are Burberry’s. From the texture to the color, Burberry’s coats are exquisite. In the Burberry fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection, Burberry incorporated this beautiful wool coat with buttons from top to bottom. This runway model wore the coat buttoned. This coat can be worn formally and informally; it is definitely my go-to for the winter.

The wool, military peacoat that I am wearing looks amazing open or closed; I chose to wear it open as I shopped around SoHo! The color is bold and creates a color contrast for the rest of the outfit. The gold buttons are an amazing detail. I wore a simple, black turtleneck along with medium-wash denim and black booties. I kept it simple today because I knew I was going shopping, so no outlandish jewelry, but I wore my new Ray-Ban aviators that I got for Christmas. Aviators will go with anything you wear during every season.

When the weather gets colder this winter, I can definitely layer cable knit sweaters with the coat and basic wool sweaters in neutral colors. This coat can also be worn with a different shade of denim, such as black and a medium-blue wash; as for shoes, the coat can be paired with brown riding boots, black suede boots and beige Keds. These long coats will definitely be needed throughout winter and the beginning of spring, and it is a definite staple piece in my wardrobe.

Hey there fashionistas! My name is Kahina Bessai, I am a junior at St. John's University and I am 20 years old! I was born and raised in Queens, New York! Although, I am very much a city girl attending an all girl school on the Upper East Side definitely changed my life. I began hanging out and exploring all of Manhattan. Manhattan's full of different fashion, depending on what area you are in, the fashion is different all around and I love being from the heart of the fashion industry. My style definitely has changed throughout the years, I used to dress extremely preppy with polo's, striped button downs, and riding boots, I did not wear a variety of color but just enough. I worked for Abercrombie and Fitch for a little over three years and that definitely impacted my style. Now that I am not working retail I find new styles on the streets of New York City, mostly Soho, which you can tell from my wardrobe because I'm more into wearing black, black and white stripes, beige, and lots of denim. I love reading Cosmo and Refinery 29 on my Snapchat App EVERY MORNING, it's literally a habit. First thing I do when I wake up is turn off my alarm and begin reading Cosmo. I learn so much from them from beauty tips to boys they've got everything covered. My internship at BLK DNM has come to an end and I am beginning a new chapter in Europe beginning January 12th! I will be studying abroad in Paris, Rome and Seville for 15 weeks, 5 weeks in each city! So join me on my journey on the first of every month I will have a blog post for you guys!
