STYLE GURU STYLE: All About The Plaid

Plaid was considered to be one of the top five trends of the season for fall 2014. Tommy Hilfiger is known for transforming his runway into his own winter scene, and so being a lifestyle brand, Tommy Hilfiger channeled the great American outdoors. His pieces were not only fashionable, but also functional and practical. The runway incorporated fake snow and was meant to resemble a ski lodge. Tommy Hilfiger’s snow bunnies were sent down the runway with a fresh face and natural hair and his inspiration was of course ski-wear. The runway show showcased an abundance plaids, clunky sweaters, boyfriend denim, and fringe.

Since I am home for winter break in West Virginia where we are known for mountains, I thought channeling the Tommy Hilfiger collection was perfect for me. I made this look my own by adding a trench coat and jeans. I kept aspects of Tommy Hilfiger by sticking to a very similar color palette and pairing my plaid blanket scarf to the outfit. When searching for the perfect place to take my photos I chose to go to a ski lodge in my town to really bring in the American feel just as Tommy Hilfiger did on the runway. Boots were also among the trend of Tommy Hilfiger’s collection, so I paired my very own Jeffrey Campbell rumble boots to the look to tie it all together. As for the beauty aspect of things, since I’m pretty much addicted to beauty products I decided to mix things up with a dark lip and some winged liner, but kept my hair natural and windblown.

Get My Look: 1. Plaid scarf. 2. Trench coat. 3. Rumble boot.

Hi everyone! I'm Melanie Witzberger from Kent State University, but you can call me Mel. I am in my third year of college, however I'm graduating this August and am so excited about it! I am currently studying Fashion Merchandising with a minor in Marketing. I can not imagine studying anything other than Fashion, I absolutely love everything about it! This is my first semester as a Style Guru and I can not wait to see what this semester holds. The future is bright ( I hope literally), as I hope to move to California sometime after graduation. I would love to be a Stylist, Visual Merchandiser, or Buyer in the future. I also have a deep passion for all things dealing with social media and would love have a career that involves working with it!
