FASHION FROM ABROAD: Roma Fashionista

March 10th, 2016 at 2:00am

I have finally made it to my second module in Europe, as I am studying abroad in three countries for five weeks in each. I am currently studying in Roma, Italia. I have been here for a little over a week now and I am loving the fashion out here. The weather here is amazing; it’s always in the mid 60’s and as a New Yorker, I am enjoying the warmth in March.

As I walk down the streets of Rome, I see Italians dressed up from head to toe. Italians are always dressed up, even if they are just going out for a cappuccino. I have noticed that despite the warm weather here in Italy, Italians still dress for the season; so because we are in the season of winter but the weather is spring like, Italians still dress like it’s the winter. I look crazy to them walking around in a spring floral dress while they’re still in puffer jackets and peacoats.

I went to a cafe with this Fashionista in Roma in between classes. She stood out to me because she was wearing a color other than black. She wore an olive green dress with a camouflage vintage jacket from a thrift shop with black/golden flats to spice up the olive dress and jacket. She also wore some basic bold sunnies because like I said, Italy is sunny and warm almost every day. It was quite refreshing seeing some color on someone seeing as the weather is too beautiful right now for black.

This Fashionista says that black is the way to go in Roma: black slacks, black booties and black peacoats—you name it. However, she decided to spice up her look today. Her favorite places to shop here are Zara and MANGO. She recommends that I stick to booties and black denim while I’m in Roma.

Hey there fashionistas! My name is Kahina Bessai, I am a junior at St. John's University and I am 20 years old! I was born and raised in Queens, New York! Although, I am very much a city girl attending an all girl school on the Upper East Side definitely changed my life. I began hanging out and exploring all of Manhattan. Manhattan's full of different fashion, depending on what area you are in, the fashion is different all around and I love being from the heart of the fashion industry. My style definitely has changed throughout the years, I used to dress extremely preppy with polo's, striped button downs, and riding boots, I did not wear a variety of color but just enough. I worked for Abercrombie and Fitch for a little over three years and that definitely impacted my style. Now that I am not working retail I find new styles on the streets of New York City, mostly Soho, which you can tell from my wardrobe because I'm more into wearing black, black and white stripes, beige, and lots of denim. I love reading Cosmo and Refinery 29 on my Snapchat App EVERY MORNING, it's literally a habit. First thing I do when I wake up is turn off my alarm and begin reading Cosmo. I learn so much from them from beauty tips to boys they've got everything covered. My internship at BLK DNM has come to an end and I am beginning a new chapter in Europe beginning January 12th! I will be studying abroad in Paris, Rome and Seville for 15 weeks, 5 weeks in each city! So join me on my journey on the first of every month I will have a blog post for you guys!
