STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Turtlenecks Are Back

February 19th, 2015 at 2:00am

By now, you’re probably sick of wearing winter clothes. I know I am. You’re ready for spring break, warmer weather and are already preparing for bikini season. But I guarantee that by July you’ll be wishing you were in this season again. Think about it, really, is there any other season that’s as classy as this one? The colors, the layering, the boots; it’s all just so fabulous.

I knew right when I saw her she was a Fashionista and had to be photographed. I mean, just check out that gorgeous cardigan! She layers it well with a cream colored turtleneck and some black jeans. I adore how she has such a simple look to her outfit. Her outfit is so minimalistic and fabulous; she didn’t even need any jewelry. With the cardigan and the turtleneck alone, she didn’t really need anything else.

Forget what you heard or what you think. Turtlenecks are back, and they do look good. They’re perfect for layering in the winter and can instantly jazz up any outfit. I sometimes will even add a infinity scarf or put my hair in a sock bun when I wear them. Like with most things, I believe in the name of fashion; there are no rules. No, you’re neck isn’t too short to wear a turtleneck. Yes, they’re much cooler now than they were when you were seven. Remember those Christmas themed turtlenecks mom used to make you wear? Now you’re probably wearing them to tacky themed Christmas parties.

Regardless of what you hear, wear what works for you. Turtlenecks look great in colors like cranberry, cream, brown and black. They add a little coziness and are so simple. To me, they’re like the maxi dresses of the winter. They don’t require a lot of thought and are easy and fun.

Lauren. Lo. LoBerry. LoB. Call me any one of these things and I'll respond. I have a habit of quoting Carrie Bradshaw. When I write at my computer I look out the window and like to think I'm in a little apartment in NYC too. I love the 80's. The 80's meaning The Breakfast Club or basically anything John Hughes related. I'm recently in love with heart-eyed sunglasses. I dream of going to New Mexico sometimes, but maybe that's just because I really love turquoise. I also can't speak any languages even though I have taken Spanish for 6 years. Gracias. In the end I hope to one day be at Glamour Magazine's "Women of the Year" event. Give me 10 years.
